Particulars, David Goldblatt

Particulars, David Goldblatt

Artist David Goldblatt took these pictures of his South-African fellows in the Seventies. With these big-format squared prints, he focused on particulars, especially on people’s lap, capturing hips, thigs, but also a hairy unbutton chest, while conveying precise body languages. This book is a very much sui generis work within the entire Goldblatt’s ouvre, which is mostly straightforwardly related to apartheid and fight against it. Particulars shows a formal and lyric approach, and refers to how posture and attitude speak of self-consideration.
